About My Clients
My clients are anxious enough about their mental health to walk into my office, meet me, and then spill their personal thoughts and feelings. However, I offer a "brave-space" here. What does that mean? It means I care about people, especially my clients, and want to allow this new situation to become your "safe-space."
My Background and Approach
I was unhappy with my life goals once upon a time, and decided my mid-life crisis was to go back to college. My father had just passed of a terrible, undignified disease called ALS or Lou Gehrig's Disease. The social workers and therapists my family worked with were amazing and I am not sure if my family would have made it through that time without them. So I went to the University of Cincinnati and received my Master's Degree (MSW) and passed the Ohio state board tests the day after graduation! I have never looked back...I love working with clients! I use a strength based practice which focuses on a client's abilities. Every client brings me a new situation and I want to tailor their therapy to them specifically.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I've heard the phrase "Mind over matter" most of my life. However, without the proper skills to make the mind strong, the issue and emotion at hand will become unbalanced. I believe strongly in emotion regulation and I believe it is possible for everyone to mast if taught the right skills. We live in a society where emotions and feelings are not discussed, however, the behavior that follows is either praised incorrectly or punished incorrectly. I believe that all people deserve respect and opportunity. This includes people of all gender, sexuality, ethnicity, and age. Many people become depressed, anxious, or angry due to being dismissed again and again. I love that my profession allows everyone to be heard and respected.
