About My Clients
I specialize in working with clients who have experienced complex trauma due to race, gender, sexual orientation, abuse, violence, historical events and poverty. The sessions we engage in will support you to create more tools, unpack the trauma, identify YOUR strengths and your understanding of yourself. My role is to help you navigate the world in a way that feels true to YOU.
My Background and Approach
Professionally, I have an LGBT-affirmative emphasis and I have also done policy work for QTPoCs, developed programs for youth and have many interests. So my dedication to wellness within the LGBT community is vast. I like to work relationally. I believe the therapeutic relationship is one that needs to be crafted to you. We use tools that resonate with you to provide care and support so you can continue your life in ways that are nourishing and balanced. Personally, I am a queer black woman and that means I have had to navigate the world differently. I am interested in what does it mean to thrive for all those who are told they can only survive. I think of my role in a client's life as someone who helps them identify and navigate the landscape of their life. Once we understand "the lay of the land", we can then identify where you have been and where you would like to go. We co-create a plan, identify the supplies/tools you need to get to where you are going and practice.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that everyone can change and grow at any time in their lives. I don't believe that there is a limit to human capacity and I think that it is important to find and identify support along the way. Therapy is not for everyone and most of the clients I see have not felt supported by more traditional therapy or have not seen themselves reflected in the structures that be. My goal is to walk alongside you as you navigate life. My own person experiences of being a queer black woman in this society has given me a particular set of skills that I think is helpful to others. My education paired with my life experiences as well as practicing for over 10 years, gives me a wealth of knowledge that I'd like to share with you. We go at the rate of trust in my practice and I look forward to meeting you!
