Sometimes, a thought or a belief is impossible to change. But, we can come to a place of understanding our values, and holding space for our emotions without being ruled by them.
I tell my clients often that all of the good stuff - all of the peace and joy in life - is only over found right now, because now is the only moment we ever live in. Learning to let go of the past, and loosen our grip on controlling the future allows us to live fully, right now. This doesn't mean that we don't enjoy our memories or make plans. But, we keep our head and our heart right here with our body, where they can thrive.
Our thoughts and beliefs have a tremendous impact on our emotions. My goal with this intervention is never to alter a client's values. But, sometimes, we may need to soften our beliefs in order to feel better about life. I listen carefully to your story, and gently press on beliefs that may benefit from a shift.
Anxiety effects a great many people; you are certainly not alone in your struggle. But, there is hope for change. My approach centers around learning to become more mindful by entering the present moment. For highly anxious clients, this can be difficult to do. But, I'm patient. Together, we'll take a careful look at the life of your thoughts and begin to develop more helpful ways of viewing and engaging with them. Little by little, my anxious clients learn to find their calm.
Let's face it, modern adult life is stressful. Sometimes the demands of the week feel like all too much to handle. We know that sustained stress can have negative consequences on not only our mental health, but our physical health as well. I take a holistic, customized approach to helping my clients learn handle the demands of life without sacrificing their inner peace.
Sadly, many of us experience disturbing situations that can have a crippling effect on our ability to function and cope. My approach in treating trauma is to gently aid my clients in processing their memories to discover the truth. I use a combination of cognitive techniques, mindfulness and self compassion to help ease the pain of my clients and re build their self worth.
