My Background and Approach
My approach to therapy is highly person-centered and I aim to create a collaborative therapeutic space with you that's marked by authenticity, empathy, and a nonjudgmental posture. I utilize Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) - a type of cognitive behavioral therapy that equips individuals to identify and replace harmful beliefs and negative thought cycles that can result in emotional and behavioral distress. I also use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) techniques, which encourages individuals to accept their thoughts and feelings rather than trying to avoid or suppress them. It helps people commit to actions that align with their values, fostering psychological flexibility and improving overall well-being.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My own experience of counseling has allowed me to sort out the confusing emotions that accumulated during childhood in a home where conflict, volatility, and criticism were daily challenges. As I started life on my own, my mind was crowded with mixed messages about my self-worth, the dependability of relationships, the reliability of plans, and hope for the future. In a trusting counseling relationship, I began to see a path out of the confusion and darkness that kept me from fully accepting and living life, engaging in loving relationships, and and pursuing a fulfilling career. My approach to therapy mirrors my own experiences and involves looking at harmful beliefs that can limit our wellbeing and developing new philosophies aimed at acceptance and growth of a healthy view of self, others, and life.
