Experiencing anxiety from time to time is very common. Anxiety symptoms can alert us to when there is a potential threat or danger in order to keep us safe. However sometimes this response system works a little too well causing use to feel anxious, worried, or experience panic when there is no threat. Learning about the anxiety cycle, discovering our unique triggers, and understanding the role of mind-body connection in anxiety can provide us relief and tools to effectively manage anxiety.

As someone who's experienced their own personal distress from grief, I understand the complexities that can come with heavy emotions and experiences. The questions of "why did this happen?" or "what does this mean?" can all too often spin around in our head. The paradox of grief is that we have to move through it in order to not feel the distress from it. I will guide you as you experience the waves of grief wash over you and offer you tools to nurture yourself in the process.

We all know the feeling of stress; muscle tension, alertness, feeling overwhelm, restlessness. Stress can feel debilitating however a small amount of stress can actually be beneficial in helping us perform. It's when that small amount of stress snowballs that we feel helpless. Identifying our own unique stress cycle and learning tools like physical movement, mindfulness, and expressive approaches allows us to feel in control of the stress.

Dance/Movement Therapy (DMT) is a type of expressive art therapies which utilizes movement, rhythm, and the mind-body connection to express, communicate, cope, and gain insight. Sessions may include what you typically think of with dance however it can also include learning ways to understand how our physical body plays a role in our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Prior clients report feeling more connected to themselves and increased joy in life.

DBT is an evidence based cognitive therapy focused on understanding that focusing on two opposing ideas/beliefs/feelings at the same time leads better results than just focusing on one. In DBT we explore the dialectic of acceptance and change, work towards accumulating positive emotions and experiences, and identify ways to manage distress. DBT is a skill based approach which encourages clients to be practicing skills inside and outside of sessions.

Mindfulness- based therapy involves moment-by-moment awareness of what one is experiencing, such as paying close attention to breathing, noises, sensations in the body, inner feelings and thoughts, and our reactions to specific situations. Mindfulness approaches can be pausing to ask ourselves how we are truly doing in this moment, meditation, movement, art based, or five- senses based. This approach allows us to review our experiences without getting caught up in them.

I am trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) to address trauma, grief, anxiety, and more. ART is an evidence-based treatment. ART works directly to reprogram the way in which distressing memories and images are stored in the brain so that they no longer trigger strong physical and emotional reactions. ART is more guided and structured than traditional talk therapy. ART combines many therapy modalities, including exposure therapy, guided imagery, gestalt and more.
