About My Clients

My specialties include immigrant/acculturation issues, LGBTQIA+ issues, stress management, adult mental health (depression, anxiety, trauma, etc.), and substance use issues (drug and alcohol). I aim to meet you where you are and at your readiness for change with a trauma-informed and culturally competent perspective.

My Background and Approach

I was born in Austin, TX and grew up in a bi-cultural Korean American family. Being raised in an immigrant family, I learned from an early age that life can be a struggle, no matter what your circumstance may be. For the last 15+ years I have dedicated my life to serving those with severe mental illness, co-occurring substance use, and trauma and I have come to believe that there is inherent worth and strength in all of us. I aim to provide a safe space, free of judgment, where we can share, learn, and nourish your unique strengths. I hope that, together, we can find your voice and celebrate your worth. It can feel like a big step to seek therapy and lending trust to a stranger. I am happy to provide a free confidential consultation without charge or guilt/judgment. Feel free to submit an inquiry if interested and/or if you have any questions.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe the integration of my racial, queer/gender/sexual, disability, and anti-carceral justice values in my practice and in my practice approach are essential to creating the safe space necessary for true therapeutic work. In my own personal life and in my practice I have always found that this always starts with competency and therefore the necessity to persistently listen and learn. It is my goal to listen and internalize with an active lens of introspection by acknowledging any biases I have and applying a perspective informed by historical systemic barriers and generational or racialized trauma. It has been my focus to prioritize the specialized needs of the more vulnerable QTBIPOC communities by interrupting biases and centering my work on validation and individualized strengths and needs. I strive to foster the client-worker relationship by building rapport, identifying trauma experiences, applying active self-awareness, and being on the passenger side of a person's life.
