About My Clients
I work with adults with diagnoses such as post-traumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder, depression, and anxiety, among others. I work with clients from various backgrounds, including BIPOC and LGBTQ+, and invite those experiences into the room because they matter.
My Background and Approach
You are the expert on your life! My work is to teach, ask the right questions, and probe so that your wisdom becomes accessible to you. My trauma- and mindfulness-informed, culturally responsive approach to counseling is primarily based upon CBT, EMDR, Somatic Therapy, DBT. I am an EMDR Certified (EMDRIA) therapist. I am licensed as a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) in North Carolina, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Texas, and as a National Certified Counselor (NCC). Prior to my career as a therapist, I spent 17 years in corporate America working in audit, organizational development, and retail management roles for world-class organizations including Delhaize Group (now Ahold Delhaize), Duke Energy, and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe in the power of human potential. We all have the ability to grow and learn as we experience this thing called life. I believe in therapy and its ability to support change. I've been in therapy off and on since college, focusing on my own wellness so that I can be of support to others. I believe in the diversity of this world especially having an intersectional experience as an African-American lesbian in the South. I love travel and have been to numerous continents as well as different parts of the US. I believe in BIPOC and LGBTQ+ causes, recognizing that our country has a ways to go until everyone truly has an opportunity for advancement. I believe that relationships can look many ways beyond heteronormative marriage. I believe in the power of education, recognizing that education is many things besides a formal four-year college degree. This is only a sliver of who I am and I'd be happy to share more.
