About My Clients
Whether you are going through a depressive episode, a traumatic event, a crisis of identity, or any other issue you need to talk about, I will strive to create a space in which you can explore your thoughts and feelings, and find ways to identify and achieve your goals. Opening up to a stranger is not easy, and I respect the work it takes on a client's end to participate in therapy. I aim to help clients foster a deep sense of insight into their lives, values, and issues they mean to tackle.
My Background and Approach
I see therapy as a secure space where people can explore who they are and how they can overcome whatever obstacles they may face without fear of judgment. I approach my position with compassion, patience, and a sense of humor. Opening up to a stranger is not easy, and I respect the work it takes on a client's end to participate in therapy. Clients can gain a greater sense of insight into who they are by reflecting on their identity, life experiences, and relationships with themselves and others. While I prioritize self-exploration and insight, I also help clients gain concrete skills with which they can empower themselves. I use a variety of therapeutic modalities, including relational and psychodynamic frameworks, CBT, DBT, narrative therapy, and internal family systems.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I recognize the systemic issues impacting marginalized folks in our society, and aim acknowledge them as potential barriers not only to therapy, but to mental health. I approach therapy from a social justice perspective, and aim to keep learning and staying humble in the process. I unequivocally believe that Black lives matter, trans identities are valid, and that no human being is illegal. I graduated with a BA from Macalester College, and received his MSW at Boston College. My background includes (but is not limited to) work with survivors of childhood trauma, gay and lesbian clients, trans and nonbinary clients, older adults, survivors of religious persecution, and refugees and immigrants. Outside of therapy, my interests include reading, cooking (and eating), playing basketball and flag football, hanging with my cat Twyla, and taking long walks in the brutal Chicago winter.
