About My Clients

“Trauma is not what happens to you. Trauma is what happens inside you.” Trauma is loud, fast, and dangerous. But it can also be slow, sustained and unnoticed. It can look like depression, anxiety, PTSD and CPTSD. But it also looks like addiction, codependency, relationship struggles, OCD, BPD, ADHD, and countless other symptoms that can feel overwhelming and may seem permanent. My clients look very different from one another, and I adjust my method to work for their unique goals.

My Background and Approach

For a long time I didn’t know about trauma counseling, or think it applied to me. It was niche, weird, expensive, and even risky. Trauma therapists were rare and EMDR seemed like it was only for war vets in PTSD studies. Trauma counseling is available to you. It works. The moment I realized that for myself, it changed everything. EMDR is an incredible and fast-moving approach to processing and digesting trauma. It moves at your pace and focuses on your goals. It is as open or as structured as you like. It is not just crazy TikTok video exercises and it isn’t just talk therapy. To me, it is the gas pedal that gets you through the tunnel. But not all of my clients come to me for trauma counseling, but EMDR is versatile enough to work with dozens of presenting symptoms, and alongside EMDR I have picked up other tools that I use with my clients. Originally, I was a CBT therapist and I still use CBT often, as well as elements of psychoanalysis and narrative therapy, art therapy, and IFS.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I am a Christian and I hold Christian values. I know that many, if not all, who read my page have likely been hurt by religion broadly, or Christianity specifically. I want you to know that I know religious trauma is real and painful. When you enter my counseling room, it is not my goal to impose my values on you. I am curious, I want to know you and learn from you. I believe that each individual is the ultimate expert of themselves, and I choose methods that depend on the direction of the client. But I also want you to feel that you know me, that I am not a mystery. I am sarcastic and love dark humor (a lot of us counselors do). I managed a coffee shop and I loved it. I did not think I was ADHD, but I wonder more every day. My husband's name is Nico and He is from Chile and cooks fantastic empanadas. We have a rescue dog named Ruby who is my shadow and appears in many of my telehealth sessions. I'm a curious person, and I want to know you.
