About My Clients
Relationships are hard. Dating and finding a healthy partner is hard, and maintaining that relationship is a lot of work. Throw in a job, maybe some kids and pets, and somehow time to get to the gym? Crazy hard. But when you have a relationship that is great, that really makes you a better version of yourself? Amazing. Nothing compares. And that's why I work with couples, because relationships are hard work, but having a great one is totally worth all the work.
My Background and Approach
I'm a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, meaning on top of the regular graduate level work in counseling, I have years of additional training focusing on relationships and relational dynamics. I pursued this extra training because since the first couples session I ever saw I knew I wanted to do couples counseling, I think having more than one person in the room meshes well with my ADHD. Honestly though, having a relational lens is in all of my work. I have an extensive athletic career as a player and a coach, and the skills I use for therapy are the same I use when teaching or working with a team. I look at relationships even for the individuals I see, as so much of our lives are based on the health of the relationships we have in our lives, like family of origin, how we get along with our neighbors or coworkers, and what our friendships and social support looks like. Relationships are literally how we relate to our place in the world, and that's what I love working with.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Live intentionally. I have a couple of go to mantras, but I think this really sums it up. If we can understand what is going on in our brain, then we can make wise choices on how to best respond. Getting to a point where our logical brain matches our emotional brain and those together inform our behaviors leads to a powerful congruence where we can truly be our best version. Wellness includes our mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being, so I take a holistic view on those things to work towards increased happiness and health.
