Anxiety is a necessary feeling/emotion for example, it can motivate us to complete important tasks. However, if we have an abundance of anxiety, it can be debilitating cause isolation behaviors and even physical symptoms. Understanding its causes and roots can aid in understanding & alleviating symptoms. At times it takes a while to uncover its origins, therefore I teach coping skills immediately to aid in alleviating symptoms as we work on understanding healthy and unhealthy anxiety symptoms.
I am a Licensed Addictions Counselor and have worked with individual addicted from ages 14 to 76+ over a decade in and out of the justice system. I utilize different researched-based practices and educational materials to aid in a successful recovery. I do not work harder than my clients. I meet them where they are on their journey and guide them with support, education, and resources. I am open to working with those involved in the justice system to satisfy probationary/parole terms.
Although I do often utilize CBT as a part of my theoretical orientations, I am eclectic by nature. There is not a "one size fits all" when it comes to therapy. I realized in my years of practice that no single approach will work for everyone; therefore, I tailor my approach based on each person’s needs, symptoms and personality. I believe it is imperative to meet my clients where they are on their journey to their mental health healing and awareness.
I have been involved with Culturally Sensitive Therapy for over a decade. I found interest in it on my journey as a multiethnic individual myself. I have attended workshops during my college years and was a part of Intercultural Community Builders and served as Board President for a short time. This is a program educating individuals grades 7 to college and professionals in a 3-day workshop teaching subject matter on cultural diversity. I want my clients to feel safe, unjudged, and accepted.
