Hi. I’m Jason Tuma. I’m a licensed therapist. More importantly, I am someone who sparks change in people’s lives.
Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in Asheville, NC
I have been treating PTSD for many years. I mainly use Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). This identifies thoughts or "stuck points" that arise from traumatic events. We will explore these stuck points and learn to replace them using techniques from CPT. Many individuals feel relief within the second session. This is an active therapy, allowing you to see change in session.
I also specialize in treating depression. I help individuals challenge thoughts, perform behavioral experiments, and identify core beliefs. This allows individuals to manage symptoms and resolve underlying problems. In our work you will actively see a change in your depression.
Anxiety is something I used to really struggle with. Therefore, I am very passionate in treating anxiety. In our work we will learn to challenge thoughts related to risk and ability to cope. We will also discuss productive worry vs unproductive worry, and handling worst case scenarios. Changing these habits has greatly helped myself and my other clients. I am able to help people manage and reduce anxiety in a way no one has helped them before.
I have obtained training in Motivational Interviewing and used it to motivate many clients. This helps individual find encouragement, motivation, and ability. We will explore your values and use those to help motivate you.
I have completed 2 classes on ACT. In our work we will explore values and determine how we can help you live a life aligned with your values.
I have received training in CBT for anxiety, depression, and personality disorders from the Beck Institute. The Beck Institute created CBT and this is the highest possible training for CBT. Even if you have tried CBT with another provider, you might want to still try with me. That's because not every provider has received the proper training. You might find that our CBT sessions are completely different.
