About My Clients
I'm a couples therapist specializing in working with folks who are neurodiverse (ADHD, Autism, anxiety disorders). I love helping couples improve and repair their connection, parents find more peace in parenting their neurodivergent kids, and individuals better manage their symptoms so their incredible strengths can shine.
My Background and Approach
My approach is firstly that of a social worker- nonjudgmental, aware of the many contexts that shape your experience and behavior, and interested in your strengths. The foundations of my work are psychodynamic- helping you understand and organize your experiences, apply self-compassion, and move toward change in the ways you desire. However, I take a very active role and won't be just "talking" or staring at you during sessions. My primary modality with which I have received the most training is Emotionally Focused Therapy. It is a practice in applying the ideas of Attachment Theory: that humans are seeking connection and safety with one another. It aims to help you understand and improve your relational interactions in ways that increase secure attachment in your life. I am not primarily a skills based therapist, but will often use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness, DBT, ERP, and Executive Functioning tools where wanted and appropriate.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I care deeply about the local community as essential to our health, both individually and as a society. I believe the divestment from capitalist systems and white supremacy, and reinvestment in one another is our way forward. I prioritize mutual aid practices and organizing with my neighbors through things like a community garden, fridge, youth program, art nights, events and collective responses to needs. I grew up in a conservative environment, a dedicated "youth group kid" with lots of church in my life. In my adulthood, I have deconstructed the religion of that culture. Now I see spirituality through the lens of collective thriving, taking Robin Wall Kimmerer's Braiding Sweetgrass and other indigenous practices as a guide. "All flourishing is mutual". Because of my background, I love to help clients who are unraveling the beliefs and culture they grew up with, and finding things that fit better for them. As a white cis-het woman I am committed to continuous decolonization.
