I have chronic pain or illness. I feel compelled to put text here because they gave me a box, but shared experience does not need explanation in my honest, professional, opinion.

This is my FAVORITE disorder. I hate the experience of OCD so much. Its so, so unpleasant. But having that felt dislike of the internal urges and sensations is what makes it exhilarating. The same sensors for panic light up for excitement. 500 characters is all I get, I am half way through, but I think I will stop here. That is enough to pique someone's interest, surely!

I am a white guy, yes. I know that. I am also French-German American. I know a thing or two. My first memory is overseas performing cultural rituals that were not my own cultures. I regret not knowing more languages and I cannot afford interpreting services for clients, but I am so into world history, law and policy, and the everyday life of people affected by events outside their control. We raped and pillaged a land, we stole people, and we have not given it back or made repair. I hate that.

I experience Chronic Pain or Illness. I do not know that there is a lot to say about this. In my professional opinion... shared experience speaks for itself.

I have Tourette's; this is my bread and BUTTER. That is all.

Yeah. I am really good at my job sometimes. A person exists internally, but also they are entirely situated somewhere in the real world. A person is not separate from their environment. This theory is the truest representation of me in a room. I lean heavy on undoing aloneness, mutual co-presence, and psychosomatic perception. Treatment is a bullshit way to describe what I do. What was broken? What do I fix? I do not believe my role in your life is as an actor. That's all you.

Narrative therapy is not about you or your narrative. Narrative Therapy is when we take you and your narrative and we test it against every OTHER narrative, whether that narrative is your family's or your teacher's; anybody not you's. I have immense exposure to high stakes situations, sexual violence trauma, domestic violence offense, sex offense, children and the horrible things people to them, disability, suicidality, elder abuse, reincarceration, and the list goes on.

I experience automatic perception, movement, and thought at all times that is not in alignment with who I am in my relationships. All I want to say you will know me by my fruits.

When I say Narrative Therapy I want you to hear 'not yours'. Watch me contradict myself live. Narrative Therapy is what we do with your narrative. Yeah. Sit with it. You have a narrative. I have a narrative. My grandmother has a narrative. Your father has a narrative. The state has a narrative. Whose should we view the problem through and which lens or lenses are going to help us make movement from where you are situated now. See, it all starts at perception and the quality of being situated.

When I say narrative it does not mean yours. What Narrative Therapy is about is looking at external perspectives. This is explictly not about taking on the perspectives of others. Rather, it is about recognizing the tangible felt impact of lived realities of other people. It does not have to be right. It does not have to be wrong either. Often the issue does not lie within a person. This is not about blame. But there is space for anger.
