I am a big believer that the best way to yield positive outcomes is through a truly collaborative approach at all steps of the therapy lifecycle; I do not believe that an environment where a client is there just to lay out their issues and a therapist is there just to respond with advice yields long-term success. I want to work as a team in all steps of the process, from defining the issues to creating a plan to address them, establishing criteria to measure progress, and monitoring progress. To that end, I make sure to put in the time to truly get to know my clients and earn their trust. I am mindful of the fact that, oftentimes, we are covering topics the client could be apprehensive to discuss, so I put a heavy emphasis on creating an environment where the client feels at ease.

One of the things that I most appreciate about therapy is that it is inherently a place void of judgment. Cultural sensitivity means that each person is treated as an individual and is allowed to define their cultural experiences as their own without judgment or stigma. Being open to hearing and learning about each person's identity is an important part of my practice and a skill that assists me in working with my clients.
