Marriage has many ups and downs. With all the little things that stack up over time, it can be so easy to find ourselves in phases of disconnectedness with each other. There is often a lot of fear, sadness, resentment and lonliness in these times. I have been trained in Emotion Focused Therapy, which is an evidence-based attachment model of therapy that focuses on finding the roots of the issues in the relationship that often go much deeper to truly heal the wounds that are present.

Relationships bring out the best and the worst in us. In order to understand ourselves and our partner in the context of our relationships, it's essential that we are able to recognize the patterns that contibute to any disconnectedness, disagreements, hurt or betrayals that occur. I use a variety of well-versed approaches to assist my couples in healing their relationship and themselves from the inside out.

Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) is a therapeutic approach formulated on the theory that emotions are key to identity, decision making, and relationships. As an EFT therapist, I believe that in order to understand the important information emotions provide, we need our focus to be more on an awareness and acceptance of our emotions rather than attempting to suppress and control our emotions. Using this approach can help uncover the complexities of a relationship in couples counseling.

We are one of the few therapy providers in the San Diego area to practice “Third Wave” Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT is one of the top interventions for conditions such as poanxiety and phobia disorders. The core idea of CBT is that it changes the way we think by physically changing our brain.

In couples counseling, neither of the individuals are the client, but rather the relationship itself is the client. With this approach, there are many parts of the relationship to be further explored and couples counseling can offer a chance to repair the relationship wounds, communication issues, and more.
