About My Clients
I typically find that my clients are come from various backgrounds with one thing uniting them: they need support. Clients of mine tend to seek insight into their concerns or desire strategies to cope with or initiate change with their concerns. In all of my studies and experience related to therapy, what I have consistently witnessed is that the therapeutic relationship is an instrumental element of the therapeutic process, so I prioritize establishing trust and safety with the clients I see.
My Background and Approach
I have completed two graduate programs related to mental healthcare, during which I have provided individual, group, & couples therapy under supervision since 2021. I also have contributed to the field through research and community organizing for several years in Tennessee and Washington, D.C. Throughout my journey as a scholar-practitioner, what has been consistently emphasized both in theory and in practice is how the therapeutic relationship is one of the most pivotal factors in positive client outcomes; therefore, I gravitate towards a relational and humanistic approach in therapy, where both I and my client(s) will co-construct the goals of therapeutic treatment in a shared space without judgment. The modalities that I primarily operate from are person-centered therapy and psychodynamic therapy, which respectively focus on genuineness, empathic compassion, and client strengths, as well as how unconscious and past relational patterns contribute to the present.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
As a neurodivergent queer Black therapist, the mental health of marginalized populations has always been a priority for me. I believe that our sociocultural identities and the associated systems of power can inform our psyche and overall functioning in life. Because of this, I dedicate my energies towards providing care in the therapy space and advocating in academic & non-profit spaces. In my studies, I have come to identify with liberation psychology: an approach in the field that is rooted in social change and collective good. I believe that mental and emotional wellness are core elements in liberation, and I feel called to use my skills and humanity to serve the people of the world. Collective care for others is my mission, kindness and humor are my tools, and empathy is at the heart of it all.
