About My Clients
My clients are those who want to have a real, authentic connection with their therapist. Maybe they've tried other practitioners who didn't quite feel right, or didn't seem to listen to their needs. They need someone to guide them but also to give them unconditional support - this means seeing them in a positive light and not shaming them. They know that they can be open and trusting which makes for more effective therapy, and a genuine relationship with their therapist.
My Background and Approach
My academic background is a combination of disciplines. With undergraduate degrees in biology and nutrition, an art minor, and master's degree in counseling, I provide an approach to therapy that is grounded in science, focused on brain neurochemistry, with an understanding of how people learn, and the benefits of praise and positive reinforcement. I use an eclectic approach and believe that a therapist must be creative and skillful in determining the right approach for each client. I also have the practical experience of raising two boys using attachment style parenting and navigating the many ups and downs of childhood, including school, friends, sports, and relationships.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I love nature: being outside, taking care of animals, growing plants. I'm also creative: I love to paint, create water features, cook and to build things. I love to read horror and dystopian books. I believe that humans strive to be good but I'm also a realist and know that's not always the case. I want to help people, but I also want to help the earth. I believe in equal rights for all and am fiercely protective of anyone (family, friends or clients) being bullied for being different. If I could go back in time I would 100% see dinosaurs.
