We are feeling beings who think, often the world mixes that up. When we default to the thinking mind we experience all sorts of challenges.
Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Oregon
I am very passionate about helping individuals and couples improve communication, understanding and increase intimacy and love where it may be lacking. I have helped many individuals and couples over the years improve their relationships. I have experience using the Gottman Method and other more informal methods as well in both individual and couples therapy.
As a queer and non-binary person I have lived experience in the area of challenges that arise from being in this community. As a professional, most of my clients have and do identify with the queer community in some way. I am both comfortable and competent in providing therapy that focuses on queer issues; I also work with many queer individuals who come to therapy with issues and goals unrelated to their queer identity.
A lack of self-esteem can feel so challenging to overcome and many of the clients I have worked with have struggled on their own or in past therapy experiences to improve upon it. I have many tools and frameworks that I have used in therapy with many people to work on issues with self-esteem. It is one of my favorite things to help people improve.
Much of my early therapy experience started with CBT and I continue to use it regularly in sessions now. As I have stated I much prefer a eclectic approach to therapy to best suit you, however, I have extensive experience in the realm of CBT which I consider a specialty of mine. If applicable I use the language of core beliefs and understanding the connection between thoughts, feelings and behaviors to inform ways in which you can improve your emotional well being.
I have been using relational therapy for the past two years. It is a useful modality to understand the ways in which you may be pushing people away, as well as understanding how these behaviors are related to your past experiences in relationships. Many clients I work with experience relational distress and conflict and often have histories of this. Relational therapy is a useful way to improve and change these unhelpful dynamics.
As a non-binary, queer individual I have personal experience with the many challenges that this community faces throughout life. As a professional most of my clients are in the queer community as well. I am very confident and comfortable supporting people through challenges related to their queer identities. I also serve many queer individuals who are seeking support for mental health issues or life challenges unrelated to their identity. I love helping people in my community!
