I believe that, no matter who we are and what we're dealing with, we're all doing the best we can with the tools we've got. I see even the "problem behaviors" we so desperately want to change as ways we've learned to cope with what is painful (e.g., systems of oppression). You are the expert on your own life; my role is to engender self-compassion by shining a light on the adaptive functions your problems have served, facilitate personal empowerment by sharing relevant information and skills, and as someone climbing my own metaphorical mountains, offer a unique perspective on you and the ones you're climbing.
More personally, I am now a US citizen but was born in Bangkok, Thailand and am a bi-racial, bi-ethnic person, as well as a child of immigrants. My father was Austrian, and my mother is Thai. I grew up in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and have lived in Thailand and Canada, as well as the United States.
