Generational trauma can impact how we relate to one another, because it impacts the way that we see ourselves, the view of the world, and how we interact with the world. It is a trauma that happened to someone before you on your generational line and then is passed on through behaviors. This could impact the way that this parent views love, relationships, money, and so much more.

Weather you have had a “Big T” trauma or several “Little t” trauma, I understand how trauma shapes our mindsets and therefore our lives. Whether it happened directly to you or to someone higher up on our family tree (intergeneration trauma), you might be struggling with just how deeply affected you are by the trauma you had, even if it was years ago. It can be overwhelming and I can help, you don't have to go it alone.

As a marriage and family therapist by training, I see people as a make up of systems. They come from a family, a friendship group, a community. I understand that lasting change often means the system has to change. I strive to support people as they navigate what they can and cannot control to step into a life that serves them.

I use cognitive based therapies to help people address their mind blocks. I work with people to see if they are struggling with negative self talk and deeply held core beliefs that get in the way of living the life they want. I use a lot of mindfulness to help people gain more awareness and support self compassion to finding get the change they want.

Do you struggle with intense mood swings, struggle with making and keeping relationships, feel impulsive, seeming to self sabotage. Odds are these issues run deep and that is why as a Certified Dialectical Behavioral Therapist, this is a modality of therapy that I use often in nearly all my therapy sessions. This style allows for me to be flexible and meet people where they are at. DBT aligns with my values of continuing to improve on our ability to be mindful. Responding vs reacting!

My training as a marriage and family therapist, makes me skilled to offer relationship work. When I see couples in my therapy practice, I address issues such as trust, communication, and intimacy. I use Emotionally Focused Therapy with my couples, which has been proven to help people heal from hurt and create stronger bonds with one another. I have done additional training to use EFT, to address pain points to help couples see their dysfunctional interactions and work together to stop it.

As a Latinia therapist who is married to a Japanese American, I understand not only from my studies, but from my lived experience of how the blending of cultures can create tender spots within a relationship. Trauma therapy is at the heart of what I do and I can support you with EMDR which I weave in parts work or IFS therapy with EMDR. The definition of trauma that I believe in is that trauma is anything that was not nurturing. I understand the importance of treating trauma as it is often the root of other issues like depression and anxiety. EMDR is jut one way that I help people over come the impact that trauma has on a persons nervous system.
