About My Clients
My clients are thoughtful, capable people who probably feel stuck on somethingthat feels overwhelming on the inside. That something might be a more formal diagnosis, like PTSD, OCD, depression, or anxiety or that something might be more transitory like, burnout, grief, relationship stress, perfectionism, or other major life transitions. They value growth and insight, and they’re ready to understand themselves more deeply so they can move forward with intention.
My Background and Approach
I believe that you are your own best ally and have everything you need to get where you want to go. To that end, I believe my role as your therapist is to remind you of what you're already doing and the resources you have. I don't believe that there's any one-size fits all to therapy. You are your own unique person and I want to be mindful and adaptable in considering what will be most helpful to you. In accordance with this value, I'll consider a spectrum of approaches ranging from non-directive to directive approaches in therapy. Non-directive would include a person-centered approach to therapy, while directive approaches are more structured and include names such as CBT (cognitive-behavioral therapy), CPT (cognitive processing therapy), ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy), and ERP (exposure and response prevention). In my experience tends to be most helpful with people experiencing difficulty with depression, anxiety, trauma, OCD, and grief.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I got started in mental health by volunteering with a crisis hotline while I was studying. This really helped to set a foundation of compassionate listening that I believe has continued to make me a better, more present, therapist. In my downtime, I love playing chess. I have gained the rank of expert and am a former New Mexico state chess champion. I continue to play and teach chess. In some situations, I find my ability to analyze problems to be helpful to my clients as well.
