About My Clients
I work with adults from diverse backgrounds and identities experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, burnout, trauma, or life transitions. I welcome LGBTQIA+ individuals, including queer, transgender, and nonbinary clients, and strive to provide culturally humble, affirming care. My goal is to create a space where you feel respected, understood, and empowered to make meaningful changes aligned with your values.
My Background and Approach
Hi, I'm Dr. Dorothy Haruyama (she/her), a licensed psychologist and founder of Spring Mountain Counseling. I hold both a Master's degree and a Ph.D. in Psychology and have more than a decade of experience helping adults through periods of stress, crisis, and personal growth. My work is evidence-based while remaining highly individualized. I draw from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), Relational Cultural Therapy (RCT), and other approaches depending on n each client's goals. Together, we'll develop practical strategies while also exploring the deeper patterns, relationships, and experiences that contribute to emotional wellbeing. My approach is grounded in curiosity rather than assumptions, and I strive to create a space where every aspect of your identity is respected and affirmed.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that healing happens when people feel safe enough to be fully themselves. Therapy should acknowledge the ways culture, identity, relationships, and systems can shape our experiences while recognizing each person's resilience and capacity for growth. I strive to practice with cultural humility, recognizing that every client is the expert on their own life. My role is not to tell you who to be, but to support you in discovering what matters most to you and helping you build a life that reflects your values with greater authenticity, self-compassion, and connection.
