Are you someone who wants to work with a therapist who is willing to address your self-identified issues as opposed to your appearance or lifestyle? When looking for a therapist do you want someone clinically trained in empirically-based modalities but with a liberal and eclectic outlook on life; someone who has "been there and done that" and survived to tell the tale? I want to offer you the experience of radical acceptance and a safe space where together we can explore your questions.
My Background and Approach
In my 20+ years of practice, I have found that the relationship between a client and their therapist is the basis for all therapeutic progress. Although I utilize a range of therapeutic modalities, I am firmly committed to the belief that the power of therapy lies within the quality of that relationship. The tools I offer are skills I have found useful in navigating challenges. I am direct and collaborative in my approach. I come from a harm-reduction perspective and am kink-aware, body-modification friendly, and an ally of the Poly, LGBTQ+, and other communities. As a sex-positive therapist, I support any consensual and risk-informed expression of sexuality. For some people, this may include kink/BDSM, polyamory, open relationships, or swinging. Enjoying a healthy, meaningful life means acting in ways that are consistent with your own values and with respect for yourself and others in all areas of your life. We'll work together to identify and put into practice those ideas.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe we all just want to be accepted for who we are. Developing the ability to be true to oneself despite the pressures of others' expectations is a magical experience I would wish for everyone. Just like my approach to the therapeutic relationship is eclectic, so are my interests and hobbies. Growing up in the 60s, I developed an interest in many activities associated with a sustainable, self sufficient lifestyle. I spin, taking fleece right off the sheep to yarn and on from there to weaving various cloth objects. I also practice kitchen witchery by gathering and preserving both home-grown and foraged foods as well as creating my own herbal products. And lastly, I am an ardent supporter of all things associated with Great Pyrenees dogs.
