About My Clients
My clients are individuals in life transitions, college students, women in the perinatal phase, and couples. Many of my clients seek therapy to deal with anxiety and/or depression and to get help navigating life's many changes. I also see many people who are trying to get pregnant, are pregnant, or on the other side navigating the challenges of being a parent. Finally, I work with couples who are struggling to find effective communication and a fulfilling intimate connection.
My Background and Approach
My goal as your therapist is to ensure that you have a safe space to be heard, a gentle approach in challenging you, and tools to make the changes necessary to improve your life. I work with my clients in a collaborative way that tailors effective approaches to help you manage whatever you come to a session with. I typically begin by taking a full history, and from there we get started on the areas in your life which are barriers to change, ways to navigate difficult moments, and communication tools to work with your partner, friends or family with. Often times, this also applies to our inner dialogue. We will work together to learn how to manage whatever stress you have in an immediate and effective way. I have specific training in the Gottman Method, Level 1 and Perinatal Mood Disorders through Postpartum Support International.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that people have incredible strength and know within themselves what they need. My role is to help unlock it in times of difficulty, show compassion and empathy when it seems too hard, and help develop the skills and tools to manage it going forward. I believe everyone deserves to feel the wide range of emotions and to have a warm, encouraging space to do so without judgment. I believe people can change--I see it all the time in my practice! I know that people are stronger than they believe, have the skills within themselves to handle whatever comes their way, and are deserving of a fulfilling life. Couples, too, are fully capable of changing the areas of their relationship that aren't working or serving the individual and/or couple.
