About My Clients
Anxiety is a common experience — anything new or uncertain can cause it. But maybe yours no longer feels normal. Your response doesn't match what is going on, your mood is affected, daily life is disrupted, and you can't find the fix. If you're here, your anxiety no longer feels tolerable and you are open to change.
My Background and Approach
Anxiety is an emotional response to a thought. Even when we swear we're not thinking anything. We feel first, think second, becoming convinced anxiety is the source of our distress. And that's why we get stuck — we're trying to solve the wrong problem. Thought drives the anxious response. Therapy explores the inseparable relationship between thought and emotion. We use the anxious feeling to point us toward the thought. We take the anxiety seriously, but we just don't stop there. I am here to help you know your mind. To teach you to listen to your thoughts. Through the use of cognitive techniques, observational exercises, and directed actions, you will increase this self awareness. You decide which thought stays and which thought goes. And the anxiety follows. Cognitive Therapy is less about soothing and more about creating change.
