Accepting Clients

Hi, I am Cassandra Gonzalez and I am a specialty Mental Health Provider for the auditory processing disorder, Misophonia.

Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate in Lehi, UT

About My Clients

I work with individuals ranging in age from young children (4+) to adults, who are struggling with Misophonia, comorbid disorders like ASD, Depression, Anxiety, ADHD, and OCD. I have learned to cope with Misophonia myself and have learned to thrive socially, occupationally, and academically. I have been able to pass on some of these lessons to my son who also suffers from this disorder. I can identify gaps in skills, connect with resources, and work towards comfortable integration into society.

My Background and Approach

I use an Integrative approach to therapy, primarily utilizing acceptance and commitment therapy, solutions-focused, and cognitive-behavioral therapy. I like to incorporate play, skill building, and family systems training. I also offer services for parents and family members of Misophonia sufferers as there is often stress and secondary anxiety associated with living in a household together and maintaining relationships. I would love to meet with you and see if I am a good fit for your needs.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I named my practice Cassandra Care because I know and care about mitigating the pain and emotional upheaval from Misophonia and recovering from the stressful triggers of this neurobiological processing disorder. I stay up to date with the latest training and research in Misophonia and Duke Psychiatry and Behavioral Science Department is leading the way. They have applied for a diagnostic code in the upcoming publication of the ICD-11, have ongoing research into interventions, and have facilitated industry consensus on the following definition of Misophonia as of 2024: “Misophonia is the heightened sensitivity and reactivity to particular meaningful triggers resulting in aversive physiological arousal, emotions, and thoughts. Each individual may have his, her, or their own unique trigger sounds such as: chewing, slurping, sniffing, loud breathing, tapping, clicking, etc. Most often, repetitive or patterned sounds that are difficult to avoid and commonly sounds made by other people.
