Hello - my name is Brian Buzzella. I am a licensed clinical psychologist (CA PSY 25059) practicing in the Mission Valley area of San Diego.
Clinical Psychologist in San Diego, CA
I have been involved in the delivery of multiple evidence-based couple interventions, including training in PREP, Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy (IBCT), Cognitive-Behavioral Couple Therapy (CBCT), and Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFT). In addition, I ran the VA San Diego's Family Mental Health Program for many years, developing a national reputation as an expert in interventions such as these.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapies are at the center of the way I approach intervention. CBT was the first therapeutic modality I received training in and I have continued to develop expertise across my career.
At the heart of exposure therapy is the ability to break-down challenges, approaching the challenge in one bite-size chunk at a time. It has reliably been shown to be a central element of many forms of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I have received extensive training in the implementation of exposure therapies across multiple conditions, including anxiety disorders and PTSD.
I completed my graduate training at the world-renowned Center for Anxiety and Related Disorders (http://www.bu.edu/card/) where I developed expertise in the delivery of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for a wide range of anxiety disorders. Further, I have experience providing CBT to individuals across the lifespan, including children, adolescents, and adults.
For nearly 10 years I was employed by the VA San Diego. During this time I oversaw the Family Mental Health Program. I became certified in multiple forms of evidence-based therapy for helping couples strengthen and/or repair their relationships, including Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy (IBCT) and Cognitive Behavioral Couple Therapy (CBCT) for PTSD. I also have expertise in the delivery of Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFT).
For nearly 10 years I was employed by the VA San Diego. During this time I worked in multiple settings, including a PTSD Clinical Team (PCT). I currently hold certifications in several evidence-based practices for helping folks recover from exposure to trauma and PTSD, including certifications in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Cognitive Behavioral Couple Therapy (CBCT) for PTSD and expertise in the delivery of Prolonged Exposure (PE).
