About My Clients
I entered graduate school in 2005 with a passion for understanding and learning to help relieve, a wide range of anxiety disorders in both youth and adults. When choosing a dissertation I had the opportunity to explore ways to support male same-sex couples efforts to maintain their romantic relationships. During my postdoc I provided care to combat Veterans with PTSD. My current practice involves the delivery of evidence-based therapies across these three areas.
My Background and Approach
Although I offer evidence-based therapies, the treatment I offer is individualized. My theoretical approach is based on cognitive, behavioral, attachment, and emotion processing principles. This means I try to understand the challenges you are experiencing as part of your entire learning history, identifying the ways that your thoughts, physiological feelings, behaviors, and emotions (especially painful ones) impact one another. With this knowledge, we can identify ways to shift these experiences, allowing you to get closer and closer to your goals. An important part of therapy is building confidence in your ability to implement what you are learning, while outside of the therapy office. I might ask you to do exercises, keep records, and read to deepen your learning. In this way you develop confidence in what you've learned and are able to sustain the changes over time.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
As a member of the LGBTQ community, it is important to me that I am able to create a space space for individuals to think about, plan for, and engage with efforts to be well. Throughout my career I have developed and delivered multiple trainings to maximize the likelihood that aspiring psychologists and medical doctors will be able to provide culturally competent care to the LGBTQ community.
