About My Clients
I enjoy working with folks who have a willingness to do some work and try some changes inside and outside of our sessions. I love to design "homework" together and see what clients follow thru with. I am very non judgmental and the work done outside session tells me a lot about you and your motivations and values. I also look for folks open to incorporating movement and other alternative methods in sessions if it feels safe and fits your goals.
My Background and Approach
I love helping folks transform their narratives (stories/beliefs) of weakness, fear, trauma and struggle into recognizing and acknowledging their skills and strengths. I also like to help retrain nervous systems to increase skills in self regulation. I work with anxiety frequently. I use CBT, IFS, self compassion, trauma informed, somatic, existential, feminist therapy and more. I have a lot of experience with supporting and exploring gender identity and gender transitioning (psychological, social, hormonal and/or surgical). I think of myself as a cofacilitator with clients (of insight, healing and action for improved quality of life and effective coping strategies). One of my favorite issues to help my clients with is connection with others (navigating personal, work and romantic relationships). I am sex and kink positive. These are all issues and strategies that I too have explored in my own therapy in the past 20+ years. My style is kind, curious, authentic, fallible and human.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I hold a strong belief in the role of self awareness and self responsibility for creation of agency and change. I also believe that through understanding external culture and power hierarchies we can better understand our own unconscious beliefs and traumas. At 19 I began a regular meditation practice which opened my self awareness to see many aspects of my parenting I hated were being carried forward by me! My degreed in Gender Studies and Anthropology were meaningful, work at Planned Parenthood and at an alternative medicine office also important. I also had a strong shift into a more empowered and less victimized experience in my own personal therapy. My journey into deep self responsibility and self compassion is ongoing. The human psyche and spirit are eternally intriguing to me and I feel honored to hear, hold and support peoples stories, hopes and struggles. I believe in resistance through connection, community and creativity. Connection with earth and nature is also central.
