About My Clients
We all experience difficult feelings such as sadness, disappointment, guilt, anxiety, and fear. However, if these feelings get in the way of you living the life you want then it is probably time to seek help. Perhaps you feel “stuck” or spend too much time “inside your head”, overrun by worries or insecurities. Maybe you feel like anxiety is running your life. It doesn’t have to be this way! You deserve to live a life that is fulfilling despite the obstacles you face. I am here to help.
My Background and Approach
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in California working in the mental health field since 2016. I am trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and specialize in working with individuals struggling with anxiety. I earned my masters in social work from San Diego State University where my area of study was community mental health. I was trained in community-based settings serving individuals with the most complex needs. ACT is a cognitive behavioral therapy which means we work on changing how we respond to difficult thoughts and feelings. ACT’s primary goal is to help us practice something we call "psychological flexibility," which expands our ability to handle all thoughts, emotions, and experiences, even the ones that are not so pleasant. ACT acknowledges that being human includes difficult and painful experiences, and also it emphasizes that we can live a meaningful life in the face of all of that. ACT is all about getting active and having fulfilling experiences.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
As a member of the LGBT+ community I believe in the power of connection and empathy to lift each other up. Much of my career has been focused on HIV prevention and care, working with marginalized communities including young men of color and sex workers. My values of service and connection guided me to pursue a career in social work and therapy.
