About My Clients
I specialize in working with children ages 3 and up who have neurodevelopmental disorders, (such as Autism or ADHD), have experienced stress or trauma, or are experiencing anxiety. I also specialize in working with challenging externalized behaviors, such as tantrums, defiance, anger, meltdowns, and aggression. I enjoy working with parents to strengthen discipline, attachment, and co-regulation skills.
My Background and Approach
I take a person-centered, play therapy approach that is based on your unique needs. I have training in play therapy modalities, trauma-focused treatment, and working with individuals with neurodivergence, including ADHD and Autism. We will also explore relationships with the community outside of the playroom/therapy to ensure you are supported in all areas of your life. The person-in-environment approach will allow us to explore your holistic self-view by incorporating school, family, and community relationships while capitalizing on personal strengths. Additionally, my extensive background in educational settings gives me the ability to be an advocate for your child and I work with teachers and counselors to ensure your child has a supportive school experience. Together, we'll strengthen your family’s relationships and ability to regulate emotions together. We'll increase your child's coping skills that they can use in school, at home, and in public. It will get better.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Above all else, I am a firm believer in creating a strong therapeutic relationship as the foundation for change. I will always prioritize authenticity in sessions and do my best to help you feel secure and supported. Because I have been in therapy myself since I was 8 years old, I understand the importance of this relationship and have empathy for children who need mental health support. I am an advocate for normalizing mental health care and have written courses for the Department of Defense about how to support children's social, emotional, and mental health and identity development. I am very passionate about helping children understand their identities, and I volunteer with a 501(c)(3) called Pint Size Protesters that teaches children about diversity, justice, and acceptance. That being said, I will always take an empathetic, person-centered, just approach to my clinical practices.
