About My Clients
I have special interest in working with clients who struggle with self-criticism and desire greater self-compassion and better understanding of themselves. When this self-criticism is related to body image, I work with clients from a Health At Every Size approach. One of my goals for all my clients is that they foster the same genuine compassion toward themselves that they so readily offer to their loved ones!
My Background and Approach
I graduated from the University of Missouri – Kansas City in 2021 with my PhD in Counseling Psychology. I am known for a warm and friendly therapeutic style, which contributes to a safe healing space for clients. I specialize in anxiety, perfectionism, and body image concerns. In my work with clients, I value exploration of impactful early experiences to help clients better understand themselves and their challenges. I also emphasize the importance of fully experiencing present emotions to process the information they are trying to communicate. Equipped with this insight, I work with clients to explore new ways of approaching their problems. In the therapy room with clients, I strive to create a space where all clients feel validated, heard, and empowered. I value the development of a genuine therapeutic relationship in which clients feel safe to show up authentically, even in moments when that feels messy and vulnerable. If you resonate with these values, I invite you to reach out!
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
It is impossible to address our lived experiences meaningfully in therapy without making space for the social identities which shape those experiences. I am acutely aware of the ways that racism, misogyny, transphobia, fatphobia and others "isms" can color our experiences of the world. I often challenge my clients to consider the ways that these experiences of oppression may be impacting them and adding nuance to their experiences. Similarly, I often challenge clients to consider the ways that their implicit biases may be showing up in their interactions with people and spaces. These identities also interact in the therapist-client relationship, and I welcome and encourage open exploration of our differences, similarities, and impact of the "isms" in therapeutic work with my clients.
