This clinical, closed group will coach guardians through an evidence-based play therapy model called Filial Therapy, a guardian/child approach to meet children’s needs. Children’s emotional and behavioral difficulties can be understood though a lens of “every behavior is an expression of a need”. In this work, child behavioral difficulties are addressed through coaching, skill building, strengthening bonds between parent and child, and peer support. Filial Therapy decreases behavioral difficulties, increases better communication, and strengthens attachment between caregiver and child. Participants can expect to learn four skills to apply in play therapy sessions and outside of the therapy room, and will take turns bringing in their child for a play therapy session for overall better understanding of navigating behavioral difficulties, learning from each other.
This approach is meant to address children’s emotional and behavioral difficulties aged 3-12 years old.
