About My Clients
Are you someone whose gender, sexuality, or relationship structure is outside of the mainstream? Have you experienced trauma? (and yes, discrimination and oppression are traumatizing!) Maybe you're struggling with anxiety, depression, dissociation, low-self worth, difficulty with motivation, or challenges in relationships. Maybe you want to explore your identity in a supportive, non-judgmental space. Maybe you want to figure out what *you* want, and learn how to set boundaries. Let's talk.
My Background and Approach
As a systemic, relational therapist, I know that relationships are key--your relationship to yourself, to important others in your life, to your body and your nervous system. It's my job to help you have corrective emotional experiences that will help resolve past hurts, and allow you to gain mastery of important skills, like talking to resolve communication challenges and conflicts. We'll discuss how your nervous system impacts you, and I'll teach you ways to use your knowledge and self-awareness to shift your nervous system state. And as much as therapy can be serious work, I find incredible value in humor and levity, so don't be surprised if you find yourself laughing in therapy. My degree is in couple and family therapy, but I work with individuals as well. Theories and approaches that inform my perspective include EMDR, Attachment Theory, Polyvagal Theory, Internal Family Systems, Narrative Therapy, and DBT.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that everyone has the capacity to heal, grow, and change. While we don't get to choose many things that happen in our lives, we can work to respond to life events in a way that aligns with our values. We all have values, even if we don't think about them much, and we all feel better when we are living in alignment with our values. My values include ongoing learning, exploration, and growth, combating oppression, and creating a more just society.
