My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I was largely trained in psychodynamic therapy and, originally on an MFCC track, family systems theory as well. Humanistic, existential, attachment/object relations and cognitive behavioral therapies were also all studied and practiced. Evidence-based models and a multitude of strategies that can be effectively utilized are a part of my continued education. Emotion focused therapy as developed by Susan Johnson is my primary model in couples work. I have believed for a long time that therapy is as much art as science, and the "relationship chemistry" between therapist and client is at the heart of client progress. I can tell you that I am continually impressed by, sometimes awed, often touched and humbled by my clients, who I always learn from. Clients bring rich, interesting, precious and creative life stories into our work, and I honor these relationships and the courage and resilience clients reveal.
