About My Clients
I work with adults and adolescents. I strive to assist clients with bouncing back from life experiences such as unhealthy relationships, grief and loss, trauma, identity/ spiritual issues and parenting. I help clients who experience depression, low self esteem, stress, fear, anxiety, and trauma. These most common uncomfortable emotions can be experienced at some point in our lives requiring mental health counseling.
My Background and Approach
I offer person centered care that promotes wellness of the body, mind and soul. I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) and Motivational Interviewing treatment modalities. My group therapy sessions provides support and encouragement for working on goals that address topics as strategies for surviving trauma, healthy ways to manage anxiety and depression, tools for building self-esteem, and more. I earned a Masters in Community Mental Health Counseling in 2013. I worked in several capacities for the local government in the state of Alaska, including the Department of Health & Human Services, Division of Senior & Disabilities Services and the Department of Corrections as a mental health clinician, and as a nationally certified guardian with the Office of Public Advocacy.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My motto is “Life Is Messy, Don’t Do It Alone” Group Therapy: 1. Allows clients to receive the support and encouragement of the other members of the group and 2. Clients see that others are going through the same thing, which can help them feel less alone. Remember, just because you are a Christian doesn't mean you don't suffer from depression, anxiety, stress, etch… I live in Maryland with my eleven-year-old son, who has special needs. I resided in Anchorage Alaska for 14 years, before returning to Maryland during the COVID pandemic. I am a survivor of domestic violence, a songwriter and recording artist, an author, advocate for the special-needs population and the founder of Wyvonne Publishing, LLC. I manages a private practice called Starburst Counseling & Wellness, LLC. I wrote a book called Parenting Interesting Children as a resource for parents who are raising children with mental and behavioral health challenges. Check out my website: wyvonnewilliams.com
