About My Clients
I work with individuals with a wide range of trauma histories, such as rape, sexual assault, childhood abuse, combat exposure, vehicle accidents, domestic violence, and identity-based trauma (e.g., racial trauma, hostility toward sexual orientation or gender identity). I also help clients address concerns that often accompany trauma, such as sleep difficulties, substance use, and relationship problems. I offer therapy in English and Spanish.
My Background and Approach
I received my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Idaho State University and completed my postdoctoral fellowship at Penn State University. I am a licensed psychologist in Idaho and Pennsylvania. I have extensive experience in psychological assessment and treatment, particularly trauma-focused therapy. The approach I take in therapy is flexible based on clients' needs and preferences. For those with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), I most often use Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). I am a rostered CPT provider, meaning that I have undergone intensive training and consultation in this approach and am included on the treatment developers' list of trained providers. I also offer other types of therapy depending on clients' needs, such as interpersonal therapy (IPT) and prolonged exposure (PE). These approaches (CPT, IPT, and PE) are structured and typically take about 14-18 sessions, though the exact number depends on clients' specific needs.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My personal interests include baking, watching movies and shows, and spending time in the mountains. I tend to be very detail-oriented and planful, but I also enjoy letting my goofy side show. Who I am as a person is deeply influenced by my being a husband and father. My identity as someone who has undergone changes in religious beliefs (from Christian to Agnostic) is also an important part of my worldview. These and other identities (e.g., straight, cis, white man; lower middle-class upbringing) shape my personal and professional interactions. I have a profound commitment to affirming others' identities in and outside of my professional roles. I value working with people of various sexual orientations, gender identities, religions and spiritualities, racial/ethnic backgrounds, nationalities, ability statuses, neurodiverse identities, political affiliations, and family compositions. I do my best to advocate for the equity and wellbeing of those of all backgrounds and identities.
