LCSW

This is such a hard decision, choosing a therapist. But it's ok to "shop" for one! Most important is finding someone that you feel gets you!

About My Clients

My patients are young adults to older adults, individuals and couples of any kind, people of all ethnicities, races, religions, sexuality, and gender-identities. People had been focused on the issues of CoVid, but those fears have gotten more minimal for now. Currently, people are bringing in conflicts around relationships, work life, or family issues. And some people emphasize wanting to improve their own issues. Stressful times need expert help.

My Background and Approach

My license is an LCSW, but I have training in psychoanalysis, psychotherapy, both short-term and long-term, and dance & movement therapy, for people who have trouble expressing their feelings in words. I am very experienced, but I'm always learning from my patients, especially in these heightened times where we all need to share more about unconscious bias and social justice. Each person is unique, and that forms the special connection of therapy. I try to get at the underlying conflicts in any particular issue, whether that's a disturbing piece in their life, their relationships with family or friends, or something about their work life. I attempt to help with these issues without the use of medication. But with anxiety or depression, if they're interfering substantially in a pt's life, and if the pt has an interest in meds, I give them a psychopharmacologist to work along with us. Therapy is not necessarily all serious every minute -- we often laugh together, too.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I was raised in a humanist household, and we've tried to raise our two daughters with the same values. We're pleased to see that they and their partners have followed in our paths, becoming serious activists in their own right. The messy political situation at present comes up often in my sessions, giving rise to new kinds of discussions, many of which help clarify people's personal issues. Our daughters and their partners participate actively in Black Lives Matters protests and BLM in NYC Schools, since two are public school teachers. We used to go on all kinds of social justice demonstrations, including those for LGBTQ support, but being older (and hopefully wiser) now, we stay away from the protests presently. We do participate in these issues by attending zoom trainings and reading all the recent books on unconscious bias and systemic racism. Dog-lovers might be glad to meet our rescue dog Daisy on FaceTime as she sometimes sits on my lap when we work at home now.
