About My Clients
This is the space to explore some of the newly surfacing gender-related feelings you've been noticing. It feels overwhelming to allow the thought to form, "Could I be... trans?". It's that much harder to layer this possibility with the other complex identities you may carry: being BIPOC, an immigrant/bicultural, neurodivergent, and/or queer. The light at the end of the tunnel may start to dim, and I would be honored to help you restore its full radiance.
My Background and Approach
In my 6+ years as a counselor, I have had the joy of working largely with queer and trans folks. We honor intersectionality and nuance by centering culturally-responsive care, and we start the journey to healing and self-understanding by excavating both 'the what' and 'the why' behind current challenges. With a strong foundation in Motivational Interviewing, I am able to draw on principles of CBT, ACT, and Existential-Humanistic Therapy to provide interventions that balance measuredness with challenge. I will always meet you where you are, and together we can tailor the therapeutic approach to address gender dysphoria as well as co-occurring conditions like ADHD, anxiety, and depression. Our work will encompass taking new perspectives, building psychological flexibility, practicing acceptance, and making adaptive behavioral changes. You will learn more about yourself and your needs, and you will find your sense of belonging in your communities and relationships.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that none of us exist in a vacuum. As humans, we are wired to care about one another and to build relationships that help us grow in concert. It's no wonder that our communities, cultures, personal relationships, and even shared languages play such an important role in shaping who we are. Similarly, mental wellness and healing often happen in relationship. I deeply enjoy helping folks learn more about their individual internal experiences -- their unique thoughts, philosophies, needs, and identities. What’s amazing is that these individual experiences almost always occur in the context of relatedness, too. That's what makes community so important and, in a similar vein, makes it that much more complex for those of us who are in marginalized communities. If you have lived a life of needing to leave part of you at the door no matter what space you're in, I see you. Let's help you reconnect with your whole self and the communities that take you as you are.
