About My Clients

I provide individual therapy to adults (18+) who are experiencing symptoms commonly associated with the diagnoses of PTSD, depression, and anxiety. I would be honored to be a fellow traveler in the healing journeys of those who identify as: children of immigrants, people of color, folks who are muti-racial and multi-cultural. I am inspired by the principles within Disability Justice, Transformative Justice, and the Peer Movement which I may bring into our sessions.

My Background and Approach

I was born in Vietnam, raised in Connecticut, budded in Boston, and bloomed in Portland. I am a long time participant in mental health and social services myself. My younger self navigated the stigma of seeking help in an immigrant household in isolation, and I am so grateful for her courage and perseverance. In many ways therapy saved my life, and I am extremely invested in and passionate about this work. Today, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I completed my MSW at Portland State University and my BA in Psychology at Boston University. I have been providing mental health services to adults (18+) since 2013 in a variety of settings: residential homes, assertive community treatment, and outpatient community mental health, and now private practice. I created Tập Counseling LLC for the flexibility to practice therapy in a way that more closely aligns with my values. I offer a space for people marginalized by dominant culture to access tailored and anti-oppressive therapy.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

Tập (pronounced like “thupp”) means “to practice” in Vietnamese. I believe in the power of practice and the process of. I dispel the myth of perfection. I believe therapy is an opportunity to practice how to reflect, explore, process, learn, adapt, and grow our self-compassion, and then put it into action in our daily lives. My approach in therapy is highly relational, collaborative, and tailored to your needs. My practice is weight-inclusive, LGBTQIA2+ affirming, and kink/poly-friendly. I am formally trained in the following frameworks: EMDR, ACT, Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET), and CBT. I recognize that no evidence-based therapy practice will rid of the impact of systemic and historical oppression; however they may reduce suffering and provide relief. Together we will discover and create pockets where you can find agency, autonomy, and empowerment in an oppressive world. We will also find pockets of joy--and probably do a lot of laughing in session!
