About My Clients
Many of my patients are people in multicultural/multiracial families and relationships, immigrants or the adult children of immigrants, people of Asian descent, or people who still feel empty and unsatisfied after achieving conventional hallmarks of success. A lot of my patients have family histories of material hardship or poverty and want to more deeply understand how their experiences of depression, anxiety, or trauma are tied to these transgenerational and cross-cultural forces.
My Background and Approach
I am the first US-born member of a family of refugees and I was an artist before training to become a psychologist. These experiences have led me to take an approach to therapy that focuses on inquiry and exploration to clarify patterns of thinking and feeling that are cloudy or even invisible. With respect and empathy, we'll look closely at your life to see how the past and the present shape your inner experiences, behavior, and relationships in ways you might not have noticed before. By seeing more clearly, my hope is that you will discover and create new ways of being in the world that feel more alive, sturdy, effective, and free.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I value curiosity, humility, love, courage, and humor. In addition to clinical work, I spend my time advocating for democracy at all scales, working people's interests, and climate justice. As a final note, I reserve a significant amount of availability for people who cannot afford to pay my full fee (though there might be a waitlist). Regardless of your financial circumstances, I would invite you to contact me to see if we could work something out.
