About My Clients
I work with ages 13 and up. I work with adult men and women as well as teenage boys. I help individuals who have anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and unhealthy relationships. I work with clients who struggle in their marriage and other familiar relationships. I do some work with OCD clients including those dealing with scrupulosity. I counsel married and unmarried couples who have communication issues. Some other issues that they may deal with is infidelity and financial issues.
My Background and Approach
I graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill for undergrad. I received my Master’s degree in Agency Counseling from Lenoir-Rhyne University in 2011. During my internships, I worked in the Delta Unit at Davis Regional Medical Center and at New River Behavioral Healthcare, which are both located in Statesville, NC. I am a very visual person. We will work together as a team to diagram, list, or draw out the issues at hand. At your pace, we will set realistic, achievable goals. I will utilize Reality, Narritive, Cognitive-Behavioral therapy, and Gestalt therapy among others. With the couples counseling, I have a direct approach that is very structured.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that many of our mental health issues are a result of unhealthy learned behavior. If clients are determined and put forth the necessary effort, they can become healthier and much of their mental health issues can be alleviated. As I tell couples about marriage counseling, if they do the homework and do not sabotage (adulterer continue the affair or the addict continue the addiction), then they have an almost 100% chance of the counseling working - but the homework can be difficult. I am a Christian and a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors. My faith directs my values and guides my counseling. I am also a devout UNC Tar Heel fan!
