About My Clients

You have taken a very positive step by deciding to seek therapy. The results you see from our work together depend largely on your willingness to engage in this process, which may, at times, result in considerable discomfort. Remembering unpleasant events and becoming aware of feelings attached to those events, working to change long-standing habits of mind and body which are not serving us well, and coping with difficult life situations, creates that you can transform yourself and be free!

My Background and Approach

Vikram Surya Chiruvolu is a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor in the District of Columbia (DC Lic. No LGPC00533), and works under Clinical Director Justin Jacques, LPC, ACS who supervises all of our clinical activity. Vikram holds a Masters of Arts in Rehabilitation Counseling with a focus on Clinical Mental Health from the University of the District of Columbia, as well as a Bachelors of Science in Computer Science from Rutgers University. Vikram also has twelve years of experience in the information technology development and operations sectors, and also two years of experience in the field of counseling specializing in the areas of in-patient, intensive outpatient, and continuing care programs for substance use disorders. The services Vikram provides include individual, group, and couples/family counseling, as well as consulting with and training clinicians on how to better use smartphones in clinical care, which was the subject of his Master’s thesis.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

Vikram's research interests focus on the intersection of youth and emerging adult mental health & online recovery care, the psychology of cyberspace, and theories and practices of counseling using smartphones and other electronic media, particularly with couples and families. Vikram is a person publicly in long-term recovery from substance use disorder and depression since 2002, which has afforded him lived experience as a participant in multiple healthcare, educational, and community supports aimed at improving behavioral health, and as an advocate for progress and social justice in reducing stigma and improving support for those seeking recovery. Vikram’s approach to counseling is integrative in nature, and is deeply informed by multiculturalism, existentialism, and dharmic traditions including yoga and mindfulness practices. Additionally, Vikram draws upon elements from media studies, quantum studies, and a wide range of trauma-informed psychosomatic modalities.
