About My Clients
For me, counseling is about overall wellness of the individual, and I will work with you to increase wellness or promote healing on your own terms. I strongly disagree with the “one-size-fits-all” mentality when it comes to therapy. P.S. I am currently pursuing my Masters in Mental Health Counseling at Northwestern University (expected graduation June 2023).
My Background and Approach
My counseling philosophy is that insight plus action creates change. Therefore, I draw from psychodynamic therapy (talk therapy), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and solution-focused therapy techniques when choosing therapeutic interventions. In addition to exploring the past, I will provide you with counseling tools that can be used today in the here-and-now. I will also use strength-based approaches with you because I believe too much focus on the issue(s) can be counterproductive to counseling.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
As an Asian American woman, I will always aim to use a multicultural lens and consider contextual factors relevant to your situation or goal(s). Further, I will always respect any cultural differences between us. It is extremely important to me that our sessions feel challenging, supportive, and I will help create that by meeting you with warmth, empathy, and non-judgment. Outside of counseling, I enjoy taking nature walks in Central Park, listening to Indie Pop artists, and cooking whatever new recipes catch my eye from the NYT Cooking app.
