My psychodynamic approach will help you be more in tune with your challenging emotions that cause distress or lead to challenges in relationships. Focus is on unearthing patterns of behavior, past hurts, wounds or trauma that might contribute to the current challenges. Through processing these past issues and gaining insight into historical defense or coping mechanisms that aren't valid any longer, clients live a more preferred life with healthier relationships and coping mechanisms.
I am Gottman Method certified at Level 1 and Level 2. Gottman method at it's best identifies the existence of the 4 horseman (criticism, defensiveness, contempt and stonewalling) and assists each partner in understanding their antidote. In addition, focus is on reflective listening and other communication skills that allow repair when there is a breech of trust.
I am certified in Prepare/Enrich facilitation for premarital counseling which allows couples to identify strengths in shared values and beliefs and also identifying possible challenge areas for growth.
I am Gottman 1 and 2 certified, and utilize role play and practice of learned communication skills in session to bring about change outside session. Also incorporate Emotionally Focused Therapy to get to the core of each individual's wounding in order for each partner to understand the other. My strength in couples’ work is my ability to assist both parties in being able to see each other’s points of view without negating the experience of either person.
I have training and utilize an integrative approach with depressive symptoms incorporating a psychodynamic approach with tangible tools from other therapy modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Behavior Activation and Motivational Interviewing.
Training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and mindfulness practices to assist in identifying, challenging and replacing maladaptive thoughts that create anxiety and managing somatic anxiety symptoms.
