For close to fifteen years I have worked with individuals in treatment for substance use and alcoholism. My approach is holistic and judgement free. I work with individuals to heal the issues underlying their substance use and develop more effective coping strategies. I also support family members in finding a sense of peace in their lives regardless of their loved one's recovery status.
I have both personal and professional experience with food and body image issues. I am very familiar with the struggle to find body acceptance in a society that bombards us with body shaming messages. There is a solution and it starts with healing from the inside out.
Helping people find connection and fulfillment in relationships is my passion. We are meant for relationship and yet....they are so incredibly difficult. Healthy relationships with others starts with a healthy relationship with self. When we know ourselves and believe our needs are valid we can attract the kind of partner we deserve and set expectations for how we want to be treated.
I am intensively trained in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Trauma Resiliency Model. I have worked extensively with people recovering from chronic trauma. I have a gentle approach that is guided by the client feeling safe in the therapeutic relationship. The first goal is to make sure the client has the appropriate coping skills and resources in place to support them through the trauma recovery process.
Clients are so diverse; I don't believe in a one-size fits all approach to therapy. Some people want to work on healing past issues while others want concrete strategies for dealing with the present, or a combination of both. I use techniques and strategies from various therapeutic approaches to meet clients where they are at. I have completed intensive trainings in the following: Emotion Focused Therapy, Trauma Resiliency Model, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Trauma Focused CBT and PCIT.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy is great for people who want concrete strategies to regulate their emotions and tolerate distress. My training in this approach allows me to help clients apply these skills and create a life worth living.
