My Background and Approach
Healing Umbrella Psychotherapy offers a space where you can be yourself as we build a safe and trusting therapeutic relationship. As a queer and sex-positive therapist, I affirm and respect all experiences and expressions of gender, sexual orientation, consensual sex, and relationship styles. I use a trauma-informed approach that focuses on improving the present, while also addressing the root of what's bringing you to therapy. Thriving relationships are integral to our growth as individuals. Healing Umbrella offers LGBTQ+ Relationship Counseling. As a poly-affirming therapist, I embrace all relationship styles, including monogamy and ethical non-monogamy. As a kink-aware therapist, I respect all consensual expressions of sexuality and view kink as a normal part of the sexual spectrum. I'm fully certified in EMDR using a somatic and attachment-based lens. I also have comprehensive training in DBT.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My experience of learning to live authentically as a queer person largely led me to this work. I chose Social Work as my route to becoming a therapist because of its focus on building on our strengths instead of pathologizing. At the same time, I love Social Work’s commitment to social justice and fighting all forms of oppression, including racism, transphobia, and homophobia. I believe healing must happen on all levels - individual, family, community, societal, and global.
