About My Clients
Have you recently had a baby, but something just doesn’t feel right? Have you been trying to get pregnant, but every month brings disappointment? Are you currently pregnant but have a lot of conflicting emotions about what you should be feeling? Are you happy to have had a “healthy baby” but can’t let go of things that happened during the birth? I am here to help you work through whatever you encounter on your birth journey…before, during and after.
My Background and Approach
I have been a licensed clinical social worker since 1994, and have worked on and off in the counseling arena for several years. In 2000, a became a birth doula and attended over 400 births, still utilizing my background as a counselor for 20 years. In 2020, I decided to combine my birth background with my counseling experience, and set my sites completely on those who are trying to get pregnant, those who are pregnant, those who are no longer pregnant, and those dealing with after effects of the labor and delivery. For too long has our society turned our backs on the emotional well-being for those that are child- bearing. I do this through an eclectic approach, with notes of cognitive-behavioral and dialectical behavior therapeutic techniques. I also draw on my 20 years experience of being in birth rooms.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I feel that we are dismissive/blind to what the emotional impact of the birth journey. It is my goal to emphasize the person giving birth, and not the infant per se. Don’t get me wrong…babies are cool…I had two of my own! But in the excitement of a new being being brought earth side the real focus is often overlooked and floundering . We need to do better…that is my mission…to meet them were they are at in the journey…preconception, fertility, loss, traum, pregnancy, labor, delivery, postpartum, and everything in between. *LGBTQ, BLM, Transgender affirming*
