About My Clients
My clients are Muslims who are practicing or want to practice, who recognize the core normative teachings of mainstream Islam (Sunni, or Shiite) and who want this worldview to inform how they are advised and listened to. If you are seeking a therapist who is value-neutral or morally relativistic, I am not the right person for you.
My Background and Approach
What is pastoral counseling? I serve people nationwide but in my state of New York, the law recognizes the right of religious practitioners to seek pastoral counseling from a religious leader of their choice, without it being regulated by state licensing concerning who is a “counselor.” I am not a psychotherapist or secular counselor. If I’m not the best person to help you, I will try to make a referral/
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I've served our community as a university chaplain, a state prison chaplain, and as a bereavement support person in hospitals. I’ve provided support in the following areas: marital support pre-marital support struggles with pornography struggles with sexism struggles with racism crises of faith deaths in the family/friends …and more. I am one of a small, but growing, number of Muslims trained through an accredited Islamic chaplaincy program. I am a graduate of Hartford International University’s Islamic chaplaincy program, where pastoral counseling was key component of my education.
