About My Clients
I work with adults, teenagers, and ethically non-monogamous and monogamous couples dealing with a variety of issues, including identity-based oppression, transgenerational/historical trauma, anxiety, depression, grief/death/loss, spirituality/religion, and relationship concerns. I am LGBTQ+, BIPOC, and neurodivergent affirming. My approach is relational, somatic, trauma-informed, liberators, and mindfulness-based.
My Background and Approach
I believe that in a supportive, curious environment, everyone’s innate healing ability can be activated and engaged. Sessions are tailored for each client, and may include mindfulness, here-and-now process work, somatics, relational feedback, depth and dream work, and playfulness. I bring more than a decade of experience working in a variety of mental health settings, including therapeutic boarding schools, universities, and wilderness therapy. My practice is rooted in Liberation Psychology and Relational-Cultural Theory. I understand that each individual is part of an interconnected web of relationships, community, family, society, and culture, all of which influence a person’s wellbeing, worldview, values, and sense of self. Paying attention to systemic and societal forces, family of origin, ancestry and intergenerational inheritances, and a person’s experiences of connection and disconnection, I help clients work toward their best, most joyful, and most purposeful life.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
As a Black, queer therapist, I have embodied experience of how identity-based systemic oppression impacts mental health and wellbeing. I assume a life-affirming stance and am against any framework that stifles, oppresses, or aims to shame life, including colonialism, imperialism, racism, sexism, ageism, ableism, heterosexism, and anthropocentrism. Our work together will most likely include an exploration of how these forces of oppression influence your life.
